Born in Nice, France, into a known family of rabbis, at a very young age, Gabriel Elfassi was inspired by the glorious voices filling the shuls. Already before his Bar Mitzva, his voice was heard above the others in the Kehilot singing the Nigounim and the holy texts. The great cantor Yoshua Danow, hazan of the big shul of Nazareth in Paris, remarked that he found a unique quality that needed to be developed. It was then that Gabriel Elfassi started his work with the master Kurt Mario, who taught him about the feeling and technic of the “Bel Canto”.
At the same time, Gabriel pursued his Talmudic studies combining his love of Judaism and his love for music. He received his Rabbinical diploma from the 770 Lubavitcher Yeshiva in New York.
Today, Rav Gabriel Elfassi is the Rabbi of the synagogue of Nogent -Le Perreux, East region of Paris and is part of the Rabbinical council of Paris.
For over 30 years, Hazzan Elfassi has sung in various countries such as in Israel with the philharmonic orchestra, In Italy where he performed some of the most beautiful Opera pieces (libretto), in Morocco and soon in Miami. We are excited to hear his brilliant tenor voice at our Sefardic minyan this Rosh Hashana.
